Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson has thanked his fans for their support during his suspension from the BBC saying he is "very touched".

Clarkson took to Twitter to thank the fans that have signed a petition to have him reinstated on the hit motoring show.

"Many many thanks to all of the people who have called for my reinstatement," he wrote. "I'm very touched. We shall all learn next week what will happen."

Yesterday (March 20) a petition signed by one million people to have Clarkson reinstated was delivered to the BBC's London offices in an army tank by a man dressed as Top Gear sidekick The Stig.

An internal investigation is under way into Clarkson's "fracas" with Oisin Tymon, the Irish-born producer of Top Gear, with a report expected to be released next week.
