Jeremy Clarkson’s future at the BBC is likely to be decided next week when the internal investigation into the “fracas” that took place between the Top Gear presenter and a producer is handed to the Beeb's director general, Tony Hall.
A statement released by the BBC said that the executive in charge of the investigation, Ken MacQuarrie, has gathered evidence of what took place a fortnight ago.
The BBC stated: "Following last week’s suspension of Jeremy Clarkson, Ken MacQuarrie is now considering the evidence and will report to the director general on his findings next week.
"Once this has been considered, we will set out any further steps. The BBC will not be offering further commentary until then."
Clarkson and Top Gear producer, Oisín Tymon, are understood to have given their own accounts of events and MacQuarrie has been looking to see what, if any, disparities there are between the two versions.
It is not yet known if any other witnesses have been or are due to be called.
The last episodes of the series have been postponed, causing the BBC to lose millions of viewers and receive thousands of complaints.
