Liza Minnelli checks into rehab in California

It's been reported that Liza Minnelli has checked into a rehab facility in Malibu, California.

The singer and actress – daughter of the late Judy Garland - is receiving treatment for substance abuse, with TMZ reporting that alcohol is her main issue.

Her spokesman Scott Gorenstein is quoted as saying that Minnelli is "currently making excellent progress at an undisclosed facility".

"Liza Minnelli has valiantly battled substance abuse over the years and whenever she has needed to seek treatment she has done so," he added.

Minnelli last entered rehab in 2004, while her mother died of an overdose in 1969 after struggling with addiction for large chunks of her life.

Minnelli has won an Oscar, a Grammy, an Emmy, two Golden Globes and four Tony Awards throughout her career, making her one of the world's most successful entertainers.
