The Santa Rita Concerts: Left Behind features songs of the 1916 widows, at the Little Museum of Dublin, 15 St. Stephen’s Green on Wednesday March 25.
Written by composer and curator Simon O’Connor, and commissioned and presented by vocalist Michelle O’Rourke, Left Behind is a new collection of songs to mark the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising.
Beginning life as simple vocal/piano pieces, these songs have been transformed with the addition of Simon O’Connor’s former bandmates from celebrated Dublin rock band The Jimmy Cake.
The concert - which takes place in the intimate, candlelit surroundings - features singer Michelle O’Rourke, multi-instrumentalist Simon O’Connor, Dara Higgins, bass and John Dermody, percussion. Tickets are €15 and the concert begins at 7.00pm.
Essentially, the stories of Lillie Connolly, Grace and Muriel Gifford, Agnes Mallin and others are retold in song.
All Santa Rita Concerts series begin at 7pm with a Santa Rita wine tasting and pre-concert interview with the performer in question in the museum’s main Georgian drawing room space. The candlelit performance then begins at 8.00pm in the ground floor gallery space. www.ergodos.ie
