Ahead of playing the Bull MCabe in JB Keane’s The Field at the Gaiety theatre this April, writer Michael Harding will undertake a nationwide tour to read from his best-selling memoir, Hanging with the Elephant.
Harding's latest book, which is published by Hachette, takes up where Staring at Lakes finished. The author is back in Leitrim, his wife has left for a six-week trip to Poland, and he is alone for the first time since his illness two years earlier.
Harding resolves to take stock of his life. However, as he attempts to tame the ‘elephant’ - an Asian metaphor for the unruly mind - he finds himself drawn back to the death of his mother during the summer of 2012.
Harding's readings are at Garter Lane, Waterford, Wednesday, March 18; Source Arts Centre, Thurles, Friday, March 20; Watergate Theatre, Kilkenny, Saturday, March 21; Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge, Thursday, March 26; Pavilion Theatre, Dun Laoghaire, Friday, March 27; Draoicht, Blanchardstown, Saturday, March 28; Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray, Thursday, April 9; Triskel Christchurch, Cork City, Friday, April 10.
