Harrison Ford is in a stable condition in hospital following a small plane crash in Los Angeles. His son has described him as "battered, but ok" and he is expected to make a full recovery.

The Indiana Jones star was piloting a vintage fighter plane which then crashed onto a golf course near Santa Monica Airport yesterday (March 5).

Los Angeles Fire Department officials confirmed that the 72-year-old was found in "moderate condition" outside of the aircraft and was "alert, conscious and breathing".

A representative for Ford said, "Harrison was flying a WW2 vintage plane today which had engine trouble upon take off. He had no other choice but to make an emergency landing, which he did safely.

"He was banged up and is in hospital receiving medical care. The injuries sustained are not life threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery."

Ford's son Ben tweeted about the accident saying, "At the hospital. Dad is ok. Battered but ok! He is every bit the man you would think he is. He is an incredibly strong man."
