A Poem For Ireland is a national project which aims to celebrate Irish poetry, and in particular the vast wealth of Irish poetry of the past 100 years. The long list of your nominations has now been whittled down to the following ten poems:
1. A Christmas Childhood by Patrick Kavanagh
2. A Disused Shed in Co. Wexford by Derek Mahon
3. Dublin by Louis MacNeice
4. Easter 1916 by William Butler Yeats
5. Fill Arís by Seán Ó Ríordáin
6. Filleadh ar an gCathair by Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh
7. Making Love Outside Áras an Uachtaráin by Paul Durcan
8. Quarantine by Eavan Boland
9. The Statue of the Virgin at Granard Speaks by Paula Meehan
10. ‘When all the others were away at Mass by Seamus Heaney
The Jury for the Poem for Ireland is chaired by broadcaster John Kelly and includes Catriona Crowe of the National Archives of Ireland, singer Damien Dempsey and former teacher, librarian and news reader Anne Doyle
The public voting deadline is Sunday, March 8 and the poem with the most votes will be revealed on Friday, March 13. You can vote at rte.ie/apoemforireland or by Freepost to A Poem For Ireland, PO Box 12575, Freepost F5087, Dublin 4.
