Ear to the Ground, 8.30pm RTÉ One

Meath dairy farmer Thomas Daly first encountered the Boyne Fisherman’s Rescue service when they recovered his sister from the river 11 years ago. Since then he has volunteered with the group, trained as a certified diver, helped to build a state of the art boathouse in Drogheda, and spent many hours searching Ireland’s rivers and lakes for missing persons. The service is entirely voluntary, funded by donations from the local community. Over 100 people are lost to Ireland’s waterways every year, and the services are tasked with both rescue and recovery. Reporter Darragh McCullough talks to Thomas on his farm, and follows the team as they train for a search.

The Gift, 9.00pm BBC One

The final episode features Peter Miles, who served six years in jail for his part in a series of aggressive armed robberies across Bristol. He has been out of prison for nearly three years and is determined to turn his back on a lifetime of crime. Twenty-six years ago Pauline was rushed to hospital to give birth to her daughter. Born 14 weeks prematurely, Pauline’s baby’s life hung in the balance. Pauline was stranded at home, 50 miles from the hospital, depressed. Fortunately, a stranger offered to give Pauline a lift to the hospital every day, and Pauline was able to be with her baby who survived. But Pauline has never forgiven herself for not thanking the woman.
