Mumford & Sons are promising a new musical direction and have written songs with Aaron Dresner of The National for their new album A Wilder Mind, which is released this May.
The follow-up to 2012's Babel was produced by James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco who has previously worked with Haim, Jessie Ware and Arctic Monkeys.
In a statement, the band say they wrote some of the new tracks in Brooklyn with The National’s Aaron Dessner. They have also said that they are moving away from the gruelling banjos of their previous work.
“Demoing with Aaron meant that, when we took a break, we knew it wasn’t going to involve acoustic instruments,” said Marcus Mumford, the band’s frontman.
“We didn’t say: ‘No acoustic instruments.’ But I think all of us had this desire to shake it up.”
The tracklisting for Wilder Mind is: Tompkins Square Park, Believe, The Wolf, Wilder Mind, Just Smoke, Monster, Snake Eyes, Broad-Shouldered Beasts, Cold Arms, Ditmas, Only Love, Hot Gates.
