Watch! Irish 'Romeo' on first date in Big Bird

The long and the short of it
The long and the short of it

Big Bird, the Irish-Belgian "punk-rock rom-com that isn't afraid to put the boot in", receives its Irish premiere as part of the Shorts Programme at next month's Jameson Dublin International Film Festival (JDIFF) – and it looks like we're in for a treat.

Directed by Jan Boon, written by Derek O'Connor, produced by Declan Lynch and starring Johnny Vivash and Liesa Naert, Big Bird follows Johnny, a fortysomething Irishman living in Belgium on a first date to really remember with Gwen.

Director Boon said: "I'm so excited that Big Bird will be screened at JDIFF. I've taken a bit of a crash course in Irish culture on this project and I can't wait to get to Dublin!"

Producer Lynch added: "We sincerely hope that people enjoy our short film, and are already looking forward to creating further unique filmmaking collaborations between Irish and Belgian talent. Viva Big Bird!"

Big Bird screens as part of the JDIFF Shorts Programme on Tuesday March 24 at 6:00pm at the Light House Cinema. For more on the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, visit: www.jdiff.com.

The Big Bird team are now developing a feature film called Dead Man in Donegal and a television series called Gone Metric.
