Rowan Williams recalls arrest on Meaning of Life

On this week's The Meaning of Life the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams recalls his infamy in the tabloids over views on Islam and his deep personal faith.

He discusses with Gay Byrne the controversial Lambeth conference and his frame of mind as he approached it. "I have somehow to be there on behalf of everybody, not just the people who think like me. And I know that was disappointing to a lot of people."

Dr Williams also recalls his attempt to bring together disparate voices at the conference.

"If all this stuff we're saying about the church as the Body of Christ...  if that's really true, you, the liberal, need the conservative, you the conservative need the liberal, there is something of Grace and something of Christ in each other that you have got to discover."
