Actor Leslie Grantham, best known for playing Den Watts on EastEnders, has said he "would like" to star in Coronation Street but thinks his Albert Square role may be too iconic.

Grantham told the UK's Sunday People: "Since I left EastEnders, I have been doing lots of theatre. It would be nice to go back into TV - people like me in this country, I think."

He continued: "I would like to go into Corrie but I've been Den for so long. It's difficult to get in now if you are well-known in another soap. I know Michelle Collins went into Corrie but I'll always be known as Dirty Den."

Grantham added: "It would be nice to follow people like Nigel Havers. He went to Corrie but he had made his name in Chariots of Fire."
