Leonardo DiCaprio is supporting filmmakers Orlando von Einsiedel and Joanna Natasegara who are nominated in the Best Documentary for Virunga.

DiCaprio  is executive producer for the Netflix film about gorillas in Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo whose continued health and security is threatened  by oil drilling, by the effects of ongoing war in the Democratic Republic and by poaching. The documentary tells the story of four individuals who are battling to protect what are in effect the world's last mountain gorillas.

DiCaprio flew into LA from Calgary in Alberta, where he has been filming The Revenant for screenwriter and director Alejandro González Iñárritu, director of the Oscar-nominated movie Birdman.

In The Renevant trapper Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is seriously injured after being attacked by a grizzly bear and left for dead by a traitorous member of his team, John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy) in a remote wilderness. Glass must make his way through a terrible winter, and deal with warring Native American tribes in his quest to survive and get his revenge on Fitzgerald. The film also stars Will Poulter and Domhnall Gleeson.

The actor has been nominated five times for an Academy Award for his acting and producing skills.The Revenant is due for release in January 2016.
