Jonathan Ross says that he and his chatshow rivals gossip about their celebrity guests.

Speaking to Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley on This Morning on ITV this morning, Ross said, “We are rivals, but very friendly rivals. We can’t not be friendly because we are bumping into each other all the time."

The UK's three chat show kings record their shows for ITV, BBC and Channel 4 in the same London studio.

“Mainly when we do chat, and I can’t name names here, but we chat about who’s a good guest and who’s not so good."

“You’ll go, ‘Oh, I’ve got so-and-so on’ and they’ll go, ‘Yeah, he or she is never as good as you want them to be’ and I’ll go, ‘Yes you’re right!’. We have that sort of gossip.”

Ross will be interviewing Madonna on a special episode of The Jonathan Ross Show.

“I first interviewed her in 1993, then I interviewed her again in 2003, so it’s about every ten years we get together,” he said.

“She’s got to stop flirting with me and commit!”

He added: “I think she is an incredible entertainment brand, which is the term we use these days. What an iconic figure?

“To have had a career that long and be at the top, and be at the forefront as well, she’s a really interesting woman.

“And she’s a really talented woman. Love her or hate her you’ve got to admit that she has talent, she has ability and she’s a great live performer. It’s going to be really good to catch up with her again.”
