Tom Hanks will reprise his role as Robert Langdon in the screen adaptation of Dan Brown's bestseller Inferno when production begins in April, with Felicity Jones, Irrfan Khan, Omar Sy and Sidse Babett Knudsen also cast.
The film reunites Hanks with The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons director Ron Howard.
Howard said of their new adventure: "For this film, I wanted Tom Hanks to be surrounded by an international cast of actors whose energy will underscore Robert Langdon's life-or-death peril, the high-stakes action he takes, and the global threat that he's trying to prevent."
The director continued: "Felicity, Irrfan, Omar, and Sidse have all broken through with recognition here in America as well as their home countries - they are phenomenal talents and we can't wait to get started."
Inferno finds Langdon waking up in an Italian hospital and suffering from amnesia, with The Theory of Everything star Jones playing Sienna Brooks, the doctor trying to help him.
Slumdog Millionaire star Khan will play Harry Sims, also known as The Provost.
X-Men: Days of Future Past actor Sy will play Christoph Bruder, while Borgen star Sidse Babett Knudsen will play Dr Elizabeth Sinskey, the Head of the World Health Organisation.
Other major castings have yet to be announced.
