Sam Taylor-Johnson has revealed that she has "signed on" to direct a Fifty Shades of Grey sequel.

The director confirmed that there are plans in place for a follow-up to the movie adaptation of author E.L. James's novel - which is the first in a trilogy.

She told E! News about the sequel plans, explaining: "I'm signed on. Let's see how this one goes first."

Taylor-Johnson added that the film's leading stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson had great natural chemistry, saying: "The chemistry was funny because the two of them liked to out-funny each other. So there's this competition about who's the funniest.

"When I saw that humour, I thought we have to build this into the movie. A lot of it came naturally…It just felt like it was right to take that journey into much darker places."

Fifty Shades of Grey hits cinemas on February 13.
