Selma director Ava DuVernay has been talking to TEN about her Oscar-nominated movie about Martin Luther King's Civil Right marches of the mid-sixties.
DuVernay's own family hails from Alabama, where the dramatic events of 1965 unfolded, making the movie a labour of love very close to her heart.
"What are the odds that the director chosen to direct Selma has a mother who works in Selma, and a father who was born in Lowndes County, Alabama, right near Selma?" she told TEN.
"At the time when the producers hired me they didn't know that. So it all worked out - but yes the movie is very close to my family history."
