Singer Pharrell and former US Vice President Al Gore have announced a series of June Live Earth concerts, Live Earth: Road to Paris, to raise awareness of climate change.

The shows, featuring 100 of the world's biggest acts, will take place on June 18 in Paris, New York, Rio de Janeiro, Beijing, Sydney and Cape Town.

A final concert by a group of scientists will take place at an Antarctic research station.

The shows are being staged ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, which will take place in the French capital in November.

The concerts will be aired across 200 television stations over 24 hours. The last Live Earth concerts were held in 2007.
