Homeland star Mandy Patinkin is set to voice Papa Smurf in the upcoming, still untitled, animated Smurfs adventure, set to hit cinemas next year.

Patinkin, who currently plays Saul Berenson in Homeland, is in final negotiations to lend his voice to the reboot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sony has previously made two Smurfs movies which used a mixture of live-action and animation. This movie is being directed by Kelly Asbury (Shrek 2 and Gnomeo & Juliet) and will be an all-animated film.

The reboot will set out to tell the origin story of the blue creatures, and has a release date of August 5, 2016.
