Eddie Redmayne has said he felt "100mph euphoria" after hearing the news that he had been nominated in the Best Actor category at this year's Oscars.
The Theory of Everything star will compete with Steve Carell (Foxcatcher), Bradley Cooper (American Sniper), Michael Keaton (Birdman) and Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) for the award.
Speaking to NBC's Today show about his nomination, Redmayne said: "Oh my God, do you know what? It's all a bit too much to take in at five or six in the morning here [the US].
"I've just gone from a deep, deep sleep to a 100mph euphoria in about three seconds, so I'm trying to take it all in, but it's extraordinary."
The 87th Annual Academy Awards take place on February 22.
