Patrick Wilson and Ted Danson have been added to the cast of season two of FX's Fargo.

Wilson will play Lou Solverson, a Minnesota State Patrolman, who was played by Keith Carradine in the first season.

Danson will take on the role of Rock County, Minnesota's Sheriff Hank Larsson, who is described as "an unflappable WWII vet who embodies a certain cowboy poetry". He is Solverson's father-in-law.

Jean Smart has also been offered a series regular role as Floyd Gerhardt, the matriarch of the Gerhardt crime family.

The actors join the already-announced Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons, who will play a married couple.

Dunst will play a smalltown beautician named Peggy Blomquist, who dreams of a more adventurous life, while Breaking Bad star Plemons will be her husband Ed, a butcher's assistant who struggles to understand his wife's desires.

The new episodes will be set nearly 30 years before the events of season one and will revisit the 1979 Sioux Fall incident.

Noah Hawley returns as the showrunner, while Joel and Ethan Coen will executive produce the project.

Production on the second season commences this month, with the 10-episode second series set to debut on FX in autumn 2015.
