Ben Affleck is set to receive the Favourite Humanitarian prize at the People's Choice Awards 2015.

The Batman v Superman star is being honoured for his work with the Eastern Congo Initiative, a nonprofit group he founded in 2010 to lead community building projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

People's Choice Awards producer Mark Burnett said: "We are so pleased to honour Ben with the 2015 People's Choice Humanitarian Award.

"This award has become an important part of our show. It highlights a different side of a celebrity and helps bring awareness to a cause that our audience can support."

Affleck has also been nominated for the Favourite Dramatic Movie Actor award for Gone Girl alongside George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and Robert Downey Jr.

The People's Choice Awards take place tonight (January 7) in the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles and will be hosted by Anna Faris and Allison Janney.
