Fiachna Ó Braonáin of The Hothouse Flowers and Belfast troubadour Gearóid Mac Lochlainn are among the musicians who take a pilgrimage to their musical mecca in a TG4 music series. Have a look at the preview clip below.
In the opening episode of the six-part Ceolchuairt, Ó Braonáin jams with Master Gnawa Hassan L'Gadiri in Marrakesh while later in the series, Mac Lochlainn realises a lifelong ambition and journeys to the very roots of roots reggae in Jamaica.
The show takes in visits to Morocco, Mongolia, Jamaica, Sardinia, Portugal and Argentina and also features journeys by Sean-nós singer Róisín Elsafty, Slide's Daire Bracken, Dublin piper Mick O'Brien, and Sean-nós dancer Máire Áine Ní Iarnáin.
Speaking about his experience, Fiachna said: “To be given the opportunity to jump in at the deep end of Moroccan life and swim through it was incredible.
"My Ceolchuairt was filled with colours and flavours I had never experienced before as well as rhythms and melodies I never dreamt I could be a part of. Those rhythms and melodies are now a part of me. It was quite simply a trip of a lifetime.”
Ceolchuairt begins on Tuesday, January 13 at 9.30pm on TG4 and is repeated on Saturday, January 17 at 10.05pm.
