The first part of RTÉ's new dramatisation of the political career of CJ Haughey aired last night. Starring Aidan Gillen as the former Taoiseach, it was theatrical stuff with more than a whiff of black comedy. What did you think?

The first episode of the three-parter was entitled Rise and covered Haughey's tooth-and-nail battle for power, his fraught negotiations with British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher over Northern Ireland, and the fall of his first government in 1981.

In next week's episode, GUBU, Haughey seizes his opportunity to regain power and to lead Ireland onto the stage of world politics - but domestic complications conspire to bring him down.

The first episode of Charlie is still available to view on the RTÉ Player.
