When you put James Corden on a film set you expect there to be a good lot of messing going on, and on the set of Into The Woods he managed to convince Anna Kendrick that Meryl Streep had been fired.

Speaking to RTÉ TEN Corden said when asked if he played any pranks on his co-stars, "Well I started a rumour once on set that Meryl had been fired, and amazingly it caught traction.

"Basically there was two high profile members of our crew having like an animated discussion over there, and Anna [Kendrick] said to me 'What's happened?' and I said 'Meryl's been fired' and she went 'Yeah, right' and I said 'No, Anna seriously, Disney have seen the rushes and she's gone'.

"Then Christine Baranksi walked over, and she's a great card and loves a wind-up, so I was able to give her a subtle wink and go 'Christine is Meryl ok? Did they give any reason why they'd fired her?' and Christine just went 'No, she's in bits' and then Anna was like 'Are you serious?' and I was like 'Yeah, they're flying Glenn Close over on a private jet right now'.

"And amazingly this caught some traction. I was like I can't believe I managed to convince anyone that Meryl had been fired. Then Meryl just turns up on set like 'Hey guys' and people were like 'Oh'. That was my favourite bit."

Into The Woods hits cinemas on January 9 and also stars Emily Blunt and Chris Pine.
