Jamie Dornan has spoken out about the perception that the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation is misogynistic.

The actor stars as Christian Grey in Sam Taylor-Wood's film, and has now revealed that he thinks the love story is more important than the erotic elements.

He said in an interview with Elle UK: "I can understand why people say tying a woman up and spanking her is misogynistic. But actually, more men are submissives than women. Very powerful men. It's a far bigger scene than I imagined.

"The love story is more important than the BDSM aspect. I mean, we are going to tell a love story, you know, it can't just be what happens in the Red Room, that's not a film. There's so much more going on than that."

Dornan's full interview features in the February 2015 issue of Elle UK.
