Hozier has said he never imagined his Grammy-nominated track Take Me to Church would be played much on the radio and its success has surprised him.
The singer-songwriter told Contact Music: "I didn't think it would be played on radio. Just because it's not a radio pop song and it doesn't sound like the other stuff that radios [stations] play."
He continued: "I was very, very surprised by the success of this stuff because I made a conscious decision not to write music just to impress people. It's certainly encouraged me to trust myself more and trust my instincts a bit more and to go with my gut."
Take Me to Church has been nominated for the Song of the Year award at the 2015 Grammys.
