Bryan Ferry's 24-year-old son, Merlin, is reported to be in a critical condition after suffering multiple injuries in a car crash in the UK on Monday.

Bryan (69) is said to be at his son's bedside in the critical care unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and Merlin is reported to have woken up yesterday morning after a life-saving operation.

According to reports, emergency services spent more than 45 minutes trying to get Merlin free of the wreckage. His older brother, Otis, said the silver Volvo car was like a "mangled box of tin."

"He had a head-on collision, has lots of broken bones and is having an operation on his heart as we speak," Otis said on Instagram.

"He was conscious before he went into theatre and his biggest concern was that he had missed Christmas! He is in the best possible hospital for this type of procedure. (sic)"
