EastEnders Executive Producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has promised fans there will be "a happy ending" for an Albert Square couple despite more harrowing times ahead on BBC One and RTÉ One.

Warning: spoiler alert!

Treadwell-Collins was discussing the storyline involving Linda (Kellie Bright) and Mick (Danny Dyer).

Mick proposes to Linda on Christmas Day and discovers that she was raped by Dean (Matt Di Angelo).

The Press Association reports that Treadwell-Collins said:  "The constant through it all is their love and we also kept hold of that, because we want women out there who've been through this, who haven't spoken out to go, 'Oh, it's going to be OK when I tell my husband, it's going to be OK when I speak out'."

He added: "Things aren't always going to be smooth, they are going to get rocky, but ultimately there will be a happy ending."
