Chris Pratt has revealed that he thought Guardians of the Galaxy would "bomb" due to the unconventional characters.
The film based on the Marvel comic books features a ragtag team of extraterrestrial misfits, including Groot, a tree-creature (Vin Diesel) alien Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and a raccoon Rocket (Bradley Cooper).
The sci-fi superhero film was one of the unlikely box office hits of 2014, grossing more than $772 million worldwide.
However, Pratt was hesitant to take on the lead role of Peter Quill because he thought it was doomed for failure.
The actor told The Hollywood Reporter: "Every rule said, 'You don't make a movie with a talking tree,' 'You don't spend this much money on a raccoon with a gun'. For me, I was like, 'Oh, so this movie is going to bomb. Done. This is the end of my career.'"
