EastEnders actor Jake Wood and his professional dance partner Janette Manrara lost out in the Strictly Come Dancing semi-final at the weekend.

Wood and Manrara, dancing the cha-cha-cha, competed in the dance-off against TV presenter Mark Wright and his professional dance partner, Karen Hauer, dancing the rumba.

Judge Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Wright and Hauer but colleagues Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli chose Wood and Manrara.

Head Judge Len Goodman, who has the deciding vote, put Wright and Hauer through to the final where they will compete against Frankie Bridge and Kevin Clifton, Caroline Flack and Pasha Kovalev, Simon Webbe and Kristina Rihanoff.

After his elimination, Wood said: "It's a huge disappointment to go out in the semi-finals but for a 42-year-old dad of two, who's never danced before, Janette has worked wonders.

"It's been a real privilege to watch her work and she's so passionate about what she does that it's infectious."

Wood added: "I'd like to thank all the people at home who voted - it's just meant the world.

"And I'd like to thank my wife Alison and my two children Amber and Buster as well. Without their support I couldn't have done this."
