Joel Edgerton has said working with Ridley Scott on Exodus: Gods and Kings "reignited" his passion for acting.

Edgerton split from fiancé Alexis Blake in the summer of 2013 and threw himself into the role of Ramses The Great.

Wenn quote the star as saying, "In many ways [it brought me back to life]. I don't want to make it sound like I was on death's door, or anything like that, but every now and then I have these moments where I question what I do for a living - a lot of guys I know, who are actors, do it too.

"Like, 'How important is what I do? Do I love doing what I do?' And every now and then I'm not so good with it and I had things going on in my personal life.

"Ridley Scott calling me to do this was like... You know like sometimes you just need to go to work? It reignited my passion for a lot of things."

Exodus: Gods and Kings also stars Christian Bale as Moses. Catch it in cinemas from December 26.
