The Beyond the Stars anthology, which features the work of Irish authors and illustrators, has been published in support of Roddy Doyle’s Fighting Words creative writing centre.
The collection sparkles with 12 wintry tales of adventure, magic and wonder, from the funny to the ghostly, from the heartfelt to the action-packed.
Eoin Colfer, Roddy Doyle, Siobhán Parkinson, Derek Landy, Marita Conlon McKenna, Judi Curtin Gordon Snell and John Boyne are amongst the authors who have supplied eleven new short stories, complemented by imaginative illustrations from PJ Lynch, Chris Haughton, Chris Judge and Niamh Sharkey.
The twelfth and final winter-themed tale in the collection was written by 14-year old Emma Brade who won a UK and Ireland-wide creative writing competition in association with HarperCollins.
All profits from sale of Beyond the Stars go to Roddy Doyle’s Fighting Words creative writing centre. Fighting Words was established by Roddy Doyle and Sean Love and inspired by Dave Eggers’ 826 Valencia in San Francisco.
Fighting Words is located in Dublin city centre, and provides story-telling workshops and field trips for primary school groups, creative writing workshops for secondary students, and occasional seminars, workshops and tutoring for adults. All tutoring is free.
"Fighting Words is not state funded, and our existence is dependent on people who believe passionately in what we do – like the writers and illustrators of these brilliant stories," said Roddy Doyle of his cherished project.
“We are especially grateful to a great friend of Fighting Words, Sarah Webb, the creative and driving force behind this wonderful collection."
