Director Shawn Levy has parted ways with Warner Bros.' movie project based on the popular online video game Minecraft.

The Date Night and Real Steel helmer, along with screenwriters Kieran and Michele Mulroney, have departed the project.

According to Variety, creative differences between Levy and the game’s publisher, Mojang, led to an amicable parting of the ways.

In a recent interview with The Times, Levy said, "A writing team and I had developed a whole take on Minecraft, and it did not fit with what the game makers want for their brand."

He added, "I felt we had a good approach. It didn't sync up with what the manufacturers want. That's completely their prerogative. It's their massively successful company."

Levy's next movie, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, hits cinemas on Dec. 19.
