Toast of London, the surreal sitcom co-written by Father Ted co-creator Arthur Mathews and The IT Crowd's Matt Berry, has been renewed for a third season by Channel 4.

The second season of the comedy about eccentric London actor Steven Toast ended last night. The pomous but likeable Toast is a classically-trained Thespian living in Soho who is constantly frustrated as he tries to get the relationship, job and life he thinks he deserves.

Channel 4's Head of Comedy Phil Clarke said: "Channel 4 has always backed original comedy, the type of shows you wouldn't find anywhere else, and Toast of London represents a significant new chapter in that story, and in our comedy heritage."
