Dublin band Monster Monster have become a firm favourite at Anfield, home of Liverpoool Football Club, with their festive ode to the hometown of The Beatles and the Reds.
Their song, Christmas In Liverpool, was played at Anfield last Saturday when Liverpool beat Stoke City 1-0 and the tune is set to be aired every Saturday in the run up to Christmas at the legendary football venue.
“Christmas In Liverpool is a love song to the city,” says Mick Stuart, songwriter and guitarist with Monster Monster. “We arrived in the studio last summer in sunny Dublin in our shorts all set to record our new song. Friday Night In Liverpool.
"Our drummer, Tommy Gray, was experimenting with some sounds including some bells. The whole vibe felt Christmassy. We tried writing some terrible Christmas lyrics and thankfully scrapped them all. In the end we simply replaced “Friday Night’ with ‘Christmas’. We feel we would never have been able to write a Christmas song had we tried.”
