Christoph Waltz has been awarded a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

The Oscar-winning Austrian actor received the honour yesterday (December 1) in Los Angeles.

He was joined by collaborator Quentin Tarantino, who directed him in Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained and his Django Unchained co-star Samuel L. Jackson.

Waltz said at the ceremony: "My heart is not just a little bit throbbing with pride, it's bursting. This is something that I, as the guy from Vienna, never would have dreamt about in my wildest dreams."

Tarantino said: "The story of how Christoph got the part in Inglourious Basterds has turned into one of those stories of how the right actor in the right role at the right time can change someone's life.

"There is a reality that 20 years ago a lot of things that have come to Christoph would have been unimaginable and that was how it was.

"He was an actor in Germany doing very fine work, as there are actors in Mexico doing their thing for the Mexican film industry and actors in Italy doing theirs, and they never expect to be getting stars on the Walk of Fame or Oscars or even being invited to the Hollywood party.

"While he doesn't take any of these things that seriously - he is a very much 'the play is the thing' kind of guy - this can't help but have his heart swell with pride and tickle his funny bone at the same time."
