Irish Sign Language (ISL) is now available on RTÉjr, RTÉ's dedicated children’s channel for the under-7s.
Sixty episodes of Storytime will feature ISL, and the series is broadcast every morning on both RTÉjr and RTÉ2. The signing was especially created by Signpost for RTÉ.
“The introduction of Irish Sign Language on RTÉjr and RTÉ2 is an important development in the provision of access services on television for RTÉ,“ said Isabel Charleton, RTÉ’s Head of Presentation and Access Services, Television.
“ First and foremost these programmes are there to entertain but it is hoped that this new access service will trigger a deeper appreciation of another way of communicating, and assist those learning sign language.”
Viewers can also catch the episodes on the RTÉ Player, RTÉjr website and RTÉjr app, and subtitling is also available on the Player.
