Ella McSweeney explores Winterage, an age-old tradition in the Burren of herding cattle out onto the pastures which marks the end of Summer. Ella joins Michael Shannon driving his cattle up the mountain and setting them out to pasture for the Winter. Grazing cattle allow the natural flora and fauna to flourish, and is the key to the biodiversity of the Burren. This is one of the few places in the world where this transhumance practice still takes place.
Plus, a feature on the seven Whyte brothers, who farm in Naul, Co Dublin. The eldest is 70 and the brothers are amongst the finalists in the Irish farmers Journal Family Farm of the Year, to celebrate the United Nations Year of the Family Farm.
