With the third series of Ripper Street currently premiering on Amazon Prime Instant Video, star Jerome Flynn has said that making the show in Ireland has been "a real joy", and that he could see himself moving here.

During a press day about the show, Flynn, who plays Bennet Drake, told RTÉ TEN and the assembled reporters that he became quite emotional on returning to the series' set in Dublin's Clancy Barracks.

When asked why, he replied: "It's the mixture of being in Ireland and the Irish crew. It's very much like being a family here."

He continued: "For me, it's the most conducive and good-feeling atmosphere on set that I've worked with. And the nature of the job, from the producers down and the writers, it's like we're all [family].

"We have a really good time, but for me [it's] also Richard's [Warlow, Ripper Street creator] writing - I'm more involved with the character than I probably have been with another television part."

Asked why this production was so different, Flynn replied: "Why are the Irish Irish? I find being in Dublin very different to being in London because of the nature of the Irish.

"They're more tight as people; there's more of a sense of community in many ways. The Irish life still has retained, I think, that... tightness of family. The Irish spirit is still strong."

He continued: "One of the reasons I was happy to come here is because I've got Irish in me so I wanted to make that connection - my father's family, that spirit. It's been a real joy, actually."
