Casualty star Rebekah Gibbs has died at the tragically young age of 41.

The actress was best known for playing paramedic Nina Farr in the long-running BBC One medical drama.

She was first diagnosed with cancer back in 2008, shortly after the birth of her daughter Gigi.

Gibbs played Nina in over 100 episodes of Casualty between 2004 and 2006.

Her agent Belfield & Ward tweeted: "Darling Rebekah Gibbs, a true inspiration and dazzling light, never to be forgotten."

Speaking to the BBC in 2010 after being cancer-free for two years, she said: "I won't get cocky though and I take each day as it comes. I am always a little unsure about the future."

Gibbs was given the five year all-clear in April this year, but in August she was diagnosed with two brain tumours after suffering a seizure.

Co-star James Redmond tweeted in tribute: "So sad to hear lovely Rebekah Gibbs has passed away. She lit up every room with her smile & positivity.R.I.P."
