The Dublin Book Festival (November 13 -16)  features a host of events for adults and children, many of them free.

The children’s programme is centred around the indoor Winter Garden in the Smock Alley space. Visit the drawing area, hear storytelling, attend illustration and cartoon workshops, visit the Book Clinic and doodle zone. Or be a guest at the fancy dress tea party where children are invited to dress up as their favourite literary character.

Festival organisers asked the children in 3rd, 4th and 5th class in Gardiner Street Primary School to name their favourite literary characters. The chosen characters ranged widely from Greg in The Wimpy Kid books, to Harry Potter, to Mr Fox, to Tracy Beaker and Horrid Harry, Suzie Powers, James (from James and the Giant Peach) and Tony Stark.

However, well-known Roald Dahl characters won the top three choices, with Matilda at number one, followed by The BFG,and in a tie for third place Mrs Twit (The Twits by Roald Dahl) and Willy Wonka (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.)
