Mackenzie Crook has said that he was "very nervous" about his directorial debut.
Speaking to Digital Spy about directing BBC Four's Detectorists, Crook said: "I was very nervous at the beginning and I grew in confidence as the shoot went along. And I think next time I get to direct, I'll have a much clearer idea of what to do and to speak up.
"I think I was a bit timid at first. There's various shots that I think, 'If I could do it again, I'd do it this way'. But I'm not complaining - it's really turned out exactly how I wanted, so I'm keen to try again. I'd like to try something that I'm not in next time, to be honest.
"Normally I don't watch anything that I've done – any films or anything I've done. I find watching myself on screen a bit uncomfortable, but I had to obviously review the shots and review my performance and give myself notes."
He added: "It's just a daunting prospect. On the first day of filming, this idea I'd had months before – suddenly there was 50 people working on it and thousands of pounds of equipment all coming true and I had to step up to the mark and start directing people."
Detectorists is out on DVD from today.
