Singer Dolores O'Riordan has been arrested by gardaí following an alleged assault.

The incident took place on a New York to Shannon flight when The Cranberries star allegedly assaulted a female flight attendant shortly before the plane landed at 5.30am.

According to RTÉ News, gardaí were summoned to the incident and it is understood that a member of gardaí was also assaulted.

The Zombie hitmaker was arrested and brought to Shannon Garda Station, where she is being questioned.

O'Riordan has since been taken to University Hospital Limerick after being medically assessed by a doctor.

A spokesperson for Aer Lingus said: "An incident took place on board flight EI110 en route from New York to Shannon today.

"The matter is being investigated by An Garda Síochána. As this is a security matter we will not comment any further."
