A charge against AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd of attempting to procure the murders of two people has been dropped in New Zealand.

Rudd had appeared in court in Tauranga on Thursday November 6, with his lawyer Paul Mabey saying the murder plot charge had subsequently been dropped due to lack of evidence.

He said his client had suffered "incalculable" damage and would consider "any possible remedies".

BBC News reports that Rudd still faces charges of threatening to kill and possession of drugs.

Mabey said the drug charges were "minor" and that Rudd would contest the threatening to kill charge.

AC/DC's new album, Rock or Bust, is due for release in December.
