The Scottish band were awarded the prize for their album Dead, beating off competition from the likes of Damon Albarn, FKA Twigs and Bombay Cycle Club.

The band said on stage after collecting the trophy at London's Roundhouse: "Thank you, we love you all, thank you."

The other nominees were Polar Bear, Nick Mulvey, Kate Tempest, Anna Calvi, East India Youth, Jungle and GoGo Penguin.

Young Fathers added about how they are planning to celebrate: "We're going to go to Berlin and we're going to make an album.

"It's free. We're not trying to pigeonhole ourselves. We're just tying to be creative."
