Ewan McGregor has opened up about the possibility of a Trainspotting sequel, saying it "might happen".

The actor starred in Danny Boyle's 1996 adaptation of Irvine Welsh's novel of the same name alongside Kelly Macdonald, Robert Carlyle, Jonny Lee Miller, Kevin McKidd and Ewen Bremner.

McGregor said in an interview with Details about filming a follow-up: "It looks like it might happen. The idea is that we shoot it in 2016, which would be 20 years after the original came out.

"And I'd be up for it. I wouldn't have been 10 years ago, but I am now."

Boyle has confirmed plans for a Trainspotting sequel which would be based on Welsh's 2002 follow-up Porno.

McGregor will next be seen in the crime drama Son of a Gun.
