Kilkenny animator David O’Reilly has landed a job on the writing staff of long-running animated series South Park.

29-year-old O'Reilly told The Examiner that joining the show, which is headed by creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, is a dream come true.

"I was introduced to Matt Stone by a mutual friend, we got along and a month later I was in the writers’ room," he said. "It’s a huge honour as Matt and Trey are heroes. I’ve been watching the show since I was 12."

O'Reilly's previous work includes inserts for films, the video for U2's song I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight, a promo for pop star M.I.A., and an episode of the Cartoon Network series Adventure Time

Known for the dark themes in his work, he moved to LA three years ago and last year he was asked to create the fictional Alien Child video game that appeared in the Oscar-winning film Her, which starred Scarlett Johansson and Joaquin Phoenix

He has also released his own game, Mountain, and created a series of critically acclaimed short films.
