Supermodel Kate Moss is to make a cameo appearance in BBC One's adaptation of David Walliams' children's book The Boy in the Dress this Christmas.

Moss will appear as herself in the hour-long fantasy-drama, which tells the story of Dennis, a 12-year-old "who enjoys cross-dressing, and the reactions of his family and friends".

Filming is underway and the cast also includes Meera Syal, The Inbetweeners star James Buckley, Jennifer Saunders and newcomer Billy Kennedy as Dennis.

Commenting on the project, Walliams said: "We have put together a dream cast for this, the first of my children's books and for many still my best."

He continued: "It is a funny and poignant story about what it is to be different. I hope it will make everyone who sees it, young and old, stop and think."

Moss and Walliams previously worked together on Little Britain's Big Night for Comic Relief.

The BBC also adapted Walliams' Mr Stink and Gangsta Granny in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
