Warner Bros has decided to withdraw from discussions to make comedy-western The Ridiculous Six with Adam Sandler.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the decision is not related to Sandler's recent four-film deal with Netflix and more to do with box office reality.
While Warners were in talks with Sandler, his movie Blended underperformed for the studio, while Seth McFarlane's A Million Ways to Die in the West, another western comedy, simply bombed.
Sandler's exclusive agreement with Netflix does pose problems for other studios, as he will be busy starring and producing the four titles under his Happy Madison Productions banner.
The Ridiculous Six was originally pitched to Sony in 2012, and then pursued by Paramount before they dropped out.
Sandler is next set to star in Pixels, alongside Michelle Monaghan, Kevin James, Peter Dinklage, and Josh Gad.
The film will tell the story of a group of gamers who must protect New York City from videogame characters who come to life.
Pixels is due in cinemas in May 2015.
